As veterans of the post-hardcore scene, it’s hard to imagine We Came As Romans not headlining a tour. Though they were technically opening for The Used on the 2013 Take Action Tour, they put on a show worthy of any national headlining tour. With spotlights flaring and smoke machines pumping, the band took the stage with all of the characteristic positive energy that has made them so popular. Their nine-song set was punctuated with messages of hope and self-love. During the middle of the set, unclean vocalist David Stephens asked the audience to take out their phones and tweet the date, location, and the hashtag “#Iamnotalone.” He clarified that he did not ask this for publicity, but as a way to bring fans together. He wanted them to search for the hashtag on twitter later that evening, so they could find other people who were at their show, who have similar interests, and who may very well have their own problems. “I want each and every one of you to remember that you are NOT alone,” emphasized Stephens as they launched into yet another song. The setlist included hits both old and new, such as “To Plant a Seed” off of their debut album, and their recent single “Hope.” With their famously positive attitudes at the end of their set, it seemed fitting that a portion of the ticket proceeds were to be donated to the It Gets Better foundation, which promotes a message of hope and personal strength through adversity to teenagers.
